A Wrexham self-storage business is reporting vast growth after a finance package from BCRS Business Loans has enabled it to develop a large part of the land to expand and house a further ten storage units and caravan storage space.
Matt Pritchard joined his father’s sawmill business in 1999 and opened a bespoke joinery workshop but with rising timber costs, he decided in 2019 to diversify into self-storage on his land, using re-purposed shipping containers.
Establishing the business, Wynnstay Self Storage Ltd, on the former family sawmill site in Ruabon Matt has transformed a large part of the 2-acre land into a self-storage site which now houses 60 storage units, along with plots to house 80 caravans and motorhomes, and now has plans to grow the business further.
Matt explains:
“I own the land so deciding to put it to good use made a lot of business sense. I contacted BCRS to see if they could provide the finance to allow me to put in the infrastructure to house the containers, whilst also purchasing the storage units themselves.
“Dealing with James at BCRS was straightforward, and he took time to understand the business proposition. After securing the finance I purchased ten additional units and am pleased to say that we have been operating at full capacity since.”
With business booming, Matt has employed a part-time bookkeeper and has plans for further expansion.
He said:
“We have been lucky – the most we’ve spent on marketing is £14 for a social media advert – the business has mostly come through word of mouth!
“The site is full and we have further space to develop so this is part of the next growth stage for the business. I know the demand is there as we have a mix of short and long-term customers, and if a space becomes available, it’s taken within a week.
“To see the land more efficiently utilised is pleasing and I’m thrilled to see how this finance has quite literally opened doors to customers. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next chapter brings.”
